Living Collections - Tasmania

A collection of plants from the various types of vegetation found in Tasmania - alpine (or montane), rainforest, wet sclerophyll, dry sclerophyll and coastal heath.  Some trees (particularly in the alpine and rainforest types) are associated with Gondwana while other trees are associated with the later development of the Australian continent e.g. acacias and eucalypts.
Also includes remnant bush and riparian zones plus botanical annex at Hogg Creek.

Present Position Description:Alpine collection - small area planted in late 1980's and now comprises about 60 species . The Alpine Arbor is located in this area to provide a panoramic view of the Arboretum. 

Rainforest and wet sclerophyll collection excluding eucalypts and wattles) - about 50 species planted from 1986 onwards and now well established particularly those plants that have been mulched, (about 140 plants with several replacements required). Further planting 2004.

Eucalypt collection - 26 of the 27 Tasmanian Eucalyptus spp. were planted in 1991 (about 100 plants with several replacements required). 

Wattle collection - 12 of the 20 Acacia spp. were planted in 1993 (about 30 plants with a few replacements required). Plus…
